What is Purgatory?

III. The Final Purification, or Purgatory
1030 Those who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, although they are assured of their eternal salvation, but are subjected, after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.
1031 The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The Church formulated her doctrine of faith on Purgatory especially at the Councils of Florence [Cf Denz. -Schönm., 1304] and Trent [Cf. , 1820, 1580]. The Tradition of the Church, by reference to certain texts of Scripture [cf for example, 1 Cor 3:15; 1031 1 Pet 1.7] speaks of a fire purifier.

SISTER MARY OF THE CROSS
Introduction
To respond to the desire that was expressed, the direction of the Bulletin "Notre Dame de la Bonne Mort" (Tinchebray - Orne - France) publishes, with all the reserves controlled by our Holy Mother the Church according to the decree of Urban VIII, the manuscript as a mere historical document. The manuscript text is an example informed by a zealous priest, very zealous and devoted missionary, on the conversations of a nun with a soul in Purgatory.
First, no one can deny a priori the possibility and the occurrence of the apparitions of the souls in Purgatory to living people. These kinds of appearances are not uncommon and the stories the report there, abound in the lives of saints. We will cite only one example borrowed from the life of St. Margaret Marie Alacoque [1] .
"When I was in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on the feast of Corpus Domini, a person wrapped in a fire suddenly appeared before me. The sorry state when I saw that she was in purgatory to pay me copious tears. He said he was the soul of Monaco Benedictine who had once received my confession and who had advised me to take the Holy Communion (often?). That is why God had permitted him to come to me for relief in his penis. He asked me to offer for him all the hardships and sufferings of three months. After obtaining permission from the Mother Superior, I did what I asked. He told me that the root cause of his suffering was to have preferred his own interests to the glory of God el'aver given too much importance to its good reputation, and the second was the lack of charity towards his brothers and the third over- attachment to the creatures. "
" It would be hard for me to express what I had to suffer during those three months. He never leaves me, and I felt like it was wrapped in fire with pain so vivid that I could not help but groan and weep almost incessantly. The testimony of theologians, documented historically verifiable facts are neither fewer nor less valid: there is enough to mention, among many others, the canon of the Divine Mystic M. Ribet, (vol. II, ch. VIII), and, more generally, rightly appreciated the works of the leading teachers of mystical theology.
God allows these apparitions and these events for the relief of souls who come to beg for our sympathy, and also for our instruction in order to reveal the effects and penalties of divine justice for the crimes that we read. A collection of several appearances, published by Bishop Palafox y Mendoza Bishop of Osma, Spain, this leads one suggestive title "Light for the experience of the living dead." One could not better express and justify the reason of providential events with which the suffering souls in Purgatory are turning to live, imploring their mercy and ask for their intercession. [2]
It should however note that the facts and stories for each of these events have only a human authority. The Church has not taken a decision. They are exposed only as historical documents.
Manuscript
Its authenticity
The manuscript that we have hands contains very interesting information on the afterlife, particularly in Purgatory. This information is interspersed with numerous tips for spiritual direction.
Its authenticity is unquestionable. Custodian of the same is Sister Mary of the Cross, born Elisa Sofia Clementine Hebert, born in Néhou-St-Georges (diocese of Coutances) i1 1 December 1840.
He lost his father at the age of 6 years. At 11 he received his First Communion and Confirmation in the Augustinian convent of Valognes, where he was one of his religious maternal aunt, Angela Quettier Sr., who was later to become Superior of the convent and be example to the death of building.
the age of 18 years Elisa returned to the Convent of Valognes, as a novice. On May 15, 1861 made his religious profession. In 1884 nearly all 'was unanimously elected assistant and the following year became the Mother Prefect.
In 1904, due to the expulsion of religious orders from France, driven from her convent, she found refuge with some cousins \u200b\u200bin the small village of Vauvicard, common Quettehou. He was 63 years. A few years later had to reach Cherbourg, where he lived together with another cousin. Here S. Pius X, on its own motion, granted her the privilege of a private oratory, with the possibility of retaining the Blessed Sacrament.
died in Cherbourg in May 1917. He is buried in the family tomb in Quettehou.
raged in 1871 about the Community of Valognes a very serious epidemic that kills several victims including a young 36 year old nun Sister Maria Gabriella. The young nun, in fact, was not so supernaturally perfect, that was true of Sister Mary of the Cross reproaches enough Frequently, to which her back, "Well, if I go to purgatory, I will draw you out." He did not think that really would be.
November 1873. Sister Mary of the Cross is in jail. Suddenly she hears moans long ... "Oh, exclaims a prey to fear, who are you ... You m'incutete afraid! ... Impressed more than ever, speaks to the Superior (his aunt) which do not show point surprise and says simply: "It is a soul in Purgatory, pray for it."

On February 15, 1874 it suffered the first interview. And so it was that until November of 1890 between the soul of Sister Maria Gabriella, and Sister Mary of the Cross there were the mysterious reports that it gave to the precious manuscript, of which we undertake the publication.

Reliability of Manuscript
It results:
1 - From the very person of Sister Mary Cross.
All those who knew her agree that it has never ceased to practice, and to the heroic, all the Christian virtues and religious. Director of
Educandato enjoyed the students of such influence that all the survivors (and still are many) agree in saying that his words and his actions had a profound influence on them. They qualify as the "Santa".
All the witnesses unanimously say that Sister Mary of the Cross was ready with intelligent, well-educated, perfect balance and absolute common sense. Precious
his reluctance to fly a route that was not that common and stubbornness in thinking that it was a trap the devil. However, despite this reluctance, she profited greatly for his spiritual progress of the requests they receive: they are authentic his sisters and notes taken during the Spiritual Exercises.
2 - The authority of RSVPs.
His spiritual director Preveli the RP, the Fathers of Pontigny, then Superior General of her congregation, in a letter dated November 4, 1912 from Hitchin (England), she sent us confirmation that he was accurately informed of the community of nuns Mary of the Cross with his old companion: "Tell me, he says, your loved one afflicted, who long to be engulfed in the glory of His Beloved! ... There has then abandoned? ... That there is still comfort in the killing?
"You have continued to write his communications? My part, I have carefully preserved the old ones and I re-read quite a few times."
It is therefore clear that the estimated range communications received and is likely to not judge those without good evidence. And here are other valuable evidence: The

Finally cited theologians were strongly affected:
a) by the great lesson of Christian charity which clearly came from all over the unfolding of the article: one part fact, Sister Maria Gabriella, in the Convent of Valognes, by its conduct had very little religious suffer Sr. Mary of the Cross, which was responsible to recall to duty, and on the other, just to Sr. Mary of the Cross, by the will of God, she had to call after the death to be freed from purgatory;
b) the fact that the lights given to Sister Mary Cross became much more vivid and more accurate, as Sister Maria Gabriella was purified;
c) the progress made by Sister Mary of the Cross in the work of your sanctification; considerable progress, they did say you can. Dubosq: "By publishing the manuscript of Sister Mary of the Cross - and I want you to do it - v'avviate to a cause of beatification."
In short, the eminent theologians consulted unanimously concluded that the manuscript of Sr. Mary of the Cross embodies the perfect proof of authenticity, so that was full of substance and value to the trust.
CONCLUSION
The Manuscript of Sister Mary of the Cross, "Manuscript on Purgatory" for certification of qualified candidates is presented to us - from one side and human history - with all the guarantees of credibility that you may need .

Quanta happiness in Heaven! There is a distance so great between Purgatory and Heaven! Sometimes we can taste like an echo of the joy that the blessed in heaven, but it is almost a punishment, because it awakens in us a great desire to see God! In Heaven, pure light, in Purgatory, profound darkness!
The good Lord loves you more than many others ... He was not there as evidence?
Mother E. is in Heaven. It was hidden and very inner soul!
But no! I'm not the devil! Sister MG I'll have to request that I will be in heaven. After, I will pray for you myself.
Yes, I can pray for you right now and I'll do it every day. You will see that the souls in Purgatory are not ungrateful! The major culprits do not see the Blessed Virgin. When you free a soul from Purgatory, is a great joy for God himself. What you read in this respect is true.
On Easter Sunday, I have some 'relief (in the penis). If you watch with
care about you, thanks to the good God grant that has not ever done to anyone. You can say your breviary for many at the same time as if recitaste for each of them, making sure, before reciting it, to express your intention, and you all will share as if you said to each of them.
There is a particular punishment in Purgatory for the religious who have displeased their superiors: Purgatory is terrible for them. They too will see that it happened to me!
March 24, 1874 (2nd Sunday after Easter). - Tomorrow go as often as you can before the Blessed Sacrament. Since I will go with us, I will have the happiness of being close to Yes, good God, this is my relief.
March 25, 1874 (Annunciation) - This is the second in Purgatory. From the day I die I was in the first, if you suffer from pain very large. In the second we suffer a lot, but much less in the first. Always be a support for your Superior. Do not talk often, wait until you ask himself to answer.
