The 2008 elections have delivered a strong majority in the Senate 169 (144 + 25 pdl league) on 162 votes. Elected senators and senators for life abroad have led to more than 170 majority in the 150 relegating the minority with more than 20 votes to spare. Why indeed a Southern voter should vote if the pdl closely linked to the League's perspective?

The centrist grouping (in fact anti-alloy) may also collect 6 members in the north central and 4 totaling about 40 senators and 26 representatives, making unnecessary the league.
In this design I think they are very fond of the two Dioscuri Bolognese Fini and Casini and with the abstention Caliendo have relied on the possibilities.
